Who is the Serb against whom the Special Prosecution filed the indictment for war crimes in Kosovo?
Kosovo’s Special Prosecution filed yesterday a war crimes indictment against Zoran Djokic, who lived in Peja, before the war in Kosovo.
During March-April of 1999, Djokic, together with an organized criminal group dressed in policemen and military uniforms, entered violently into Albanian houses in the neighborhood known as Kristal, in Peja, and forced their inhabitants to leave, maltreated them physically and mentally and then killed them.
Zoran Djokic, residing in Belgrade, was arrested in February 2019, at the border crossing Jarinje, in northern part of Kosovo.
Djokic lived in Mitrovica since 2015, and mainly worked for non-governmental organizations. At the time of his arrest, Serbian news agency Beta ported that for a while Djokic also worked for the Kosovo Government.
“During March-April of 1999, Djokic, together with an organized criminal group dressed in policemen and military uniforms, caused a large-scale suffering and violation of body and health, application of intimidation against unprotected civilian population, murder, robbing of a city or country, ordering the displacement of civilian population or specific civilian individuals who were not directly involved in the conflict, by interacting with the so far unidentified persons, with whom he entered the neighborhood “Kristal”, in Peja, violently entered Albanian houses, forced them to leave their houses, physically and psychologically abused them, and killing them,” the Special Prosecution specifies in the indictment announcement.
Since his arrest, Zoran Djokic serves the measure of detention in the high security prison of Dyz./periskopi
