UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has expressed his concerns on tensions between Kosovo and Serbia. He appealed on both sides both sides to refrain from declarations and provocations which can provoke chaos, and demanded immediate continuation of the dialogue.

“Serious tensions between Belgrade and Pristina are still barrier for continuing a productive dialogue and incite concerns among local and international officials due to possible deterioration of stability,” Serbian agency FoNet cites UN’s Secretary General new report on the situation in Kosovo, which will be reviewed on June 10 at the UN Security Council session.

Guterres expressed his concern by stressing out that the 100 percent tariff on all products made in Serbia still remain in force, and that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic already warned on counter measures against Pristina if this tariff is not going to be lifted soon.

The UN chief says that from his last report, respectively during the last six months, “43 people have returned to Kosovo, of whom 34 are Serbs”.

He also noted that during this period several incidents in mixed ethnic settlements occurred.

Otherwise, since the UN Security Council adopted the Resolution 1244, in 1999, the Security Council is conducting four sessions per year for Kosovo. However, following the requests of the US or Great Britain the upcoming reports will take place twice a year./periskopi/
