“The Kosovo nightingale”, Nexhmije Pagarusha, dies at 86
Kosovo Albanian music icon, Nexhmije Pagarusha, has died today, at the age 86, after suffering from a short illness. Nexhmije Pagarusha was as well a successful actress, both in film and in theater.
She attended solo canto music school in Belgrade, which she left in the third year of studies. Pagarusha’s first musical performance on stage was in Belgrade. In 1948 he was accepted as solo singer in Radio Pristina. Back then, she collaborated with many singers from Albania and even performed in Albania on an occasion of a tour with the “Shota” ensemble.
When was young, Nexhmije Pagarusha interpreted the translated works of Beethoven, Verdi and many other great names.
She held many concerts in various countries around the world, such as Israel, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, etc.
“Baresha” is one of the masterpieces of her interpretation. This song is composed by her husband Rexhep Mulliqi, while the lyrics were written by the poet Rifat Kukaj.
Telegrams of condolence were sent by the country’s president, Hashim Thaci, and numerous political and public figures, from Kosovo and abroad.
