The Assembly holds back approval of the budget
The year 2020 found Kosovo without an approved state budget, due to delays in constitution of the Assembly of Kosovo, which is key institution for passing the budget. However, even after its constitution on 26 December last year, the lawmakers haven’t met in order approve it.
Although no problems are expected for the first three months of this year, circumstances may change in the event that budget will not be approved by April.
If the deputies do not pass the budget for this year, from April all payments for salaries, pensions and other services will be suspended. According to economic experts, this will cause chaos, and financial and budgetary crisis in the country.
Officials from the Kosovo Government, on the other hand, told Gazeta Zeri that there is sufficient budget for covering the first three months of this year.
So far just the mid-term expenditure framework 2020 – 2030 has been adopted, a main document on the basis of which the annual budget for 2020 should be drawn up.
According to this framework, Kosovo’s budget for 2020 is projected to be around 2.4 billion Euros.
