Justice for All: Over 230 testimonies for sexual assault within three months
The association Justice for All was established few months ago, by a survivor of torture who’s in search of justice for 20 years, but has never enjoyed it.
‘Ambassador of Courage’, Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman has found strength and in October 2018 publicly confessed about the horror she experienced 20 years ago. Meanwhile, through the association established she became the voice of all living victims of war, by protecting all of them in legal aspect.
The director of the association is her brother, Nafi Krasniqi.
He says the association is a victim’s claim. In case of his sister Krasniqi says they have had a trial with many injustices, but no support from anyone.
“In the association we aim to gather evidences of war. We will complete all their documentation and, meanwhile, through a team we believe we will present soon, we will prepare the documents for prosecution. In other words, people suspected for committing crimes in Kosovo will be prosecuted,” he says.
According to him, few months after they’ve started the work numerous new cases have been reported to the association. Krasniqi explains that many cases were accumulated over these months.
“There were people who appeared for the first time. We have oriented the victims, by giving them addresses of those organizations that deal with the rehabilitation of the victims. We also have people that came to testify for the crimes happened to them, and we believe that we will soon begin to handle these testimonies and documentation. In total we have over 230 cases of evidences. All these happened since 20 February, when the association has been licensed,” Krasniqi explains.
Denied righteousness that they experienced Krasniqi says they aim to prevent from happening for other victims.
He also tackles the issue of the photography, which was made public in the Kosovo Assembly by the deputy, Flora Brovina.
“By being family members of a victim, we initially thought that the horrifying scene in that picture was true, and thus it made us feel bad. Victims would never want to look back and remind you of what happened to them, let alone to look at such pictures. I believe that Ms. Brovina’s goal was to reveal what happened in Kosovo. Yet, I think that it’s best if she justifies it by herself. Flora will give her explanation, although we will never classify it differently but as her rushed reaction…. Yet, she can value it best herself,” he says.
Director of the Justice for All association hopes that, there will be justice for all victims one day, including his sister who’s been raped at the age of 16.
“We believe that now prosecution and our state are ready to punish the crimes, as it may be the last opportunity we can start working on justice. We always have justified our state and its bodies because they lack the competences, considering that there were three internationals in the first instance panel of the court… we have thus always justified ourselves. However, we could not justify their unwillingness to help the victims or the injured – at least in the forms they could help. However, now when all the competences are in hands of our institutions, we believe and hope that we will really work to achieve justice,” Krasniqi concludes.
Krasniqi has appealed to on all brothers of the victims to support them, so that ‘they can feel as heroines, as they really are’, he says.
