Is Albin Kurti afraid of becoming Prime Minister?
Why is Albin Kurti refusing to take the mandate for formation of the government? Is it the lack of agreement with the LDK, or the lack of courage to assume the responsibilities of Kosovo’s Prime Minister?
Albin Kurti did not respond today to the invitations sent by President Thaci, for a meeting at 1:30 pm, in order to appoint the mandate for formation of the government, on the grounds that he is not in Pristina, although it was previously reported that he was seen during the day in the capital city.
Leader of Vetevendosje didn’t react even after the second invitation of the President for the meeting at 20:00, who requested to avoid any delay for formation of the government, as the Assembly is already constituted.
“I again call on everyone to show leadership and not delay the formation of the new government of the Republic of Kosovo. Our people and our allies cannot wait anymore,” President Thaçi wrote on Twitter.
Following election of Glauk Konjufca as a Speaker of the Parliament, though without agreement with the LDK, Albin Kurti said that Vetevendosje don’t want to block formation of the institutions.
However, he is today refusing to enter the Presidency and to take the mandate of forming the government, as provided by the Constitution of Kosovo, and thereby deliberately delaying the creation of the institutions.
It remains unclear from where this hesitation is deriving from.
Is it the lack of a ruling coalition agreement with the LDK, with which clearly Kurti disrupted relations, or the lack of courage to take responsibilities as Kosovo’s prime minister, given the great challenges ahead?
