First time in 14 years, Kurti bends down in front of President Rugova’s tomb
Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, for the first time paid homage today in front of the tomb of the former President of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova.
Following the homage, Kurti said that on the 12th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence Ibrahim Rugova’s political commitment and insistence on freedom and independence were valued.
“As Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, today, as we mark the 12th anniversary of our independence, we remember the first President of the Republic of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, elected by popular vote on May 24, 1992. A decade later, on March 4, 2002, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova was re-elected President of Kosovo, this time as the first President in liberated Kosovo. On a day like this, we appreciate the persistent and institutional efforts, the political commitment to freedom and independence. May he rest in peace,”Kurti says.
Otherwise, until now Kurti didn’t want to recognize this contribution of President Rugova for – as he said today – freedom and independence of Kosovo. Kurti even stated that Rugova worked against interests of Kosovo.
Today, 14 years after Rugova’s death, Kurti was accompanied by Speaker of the Assembly, Vjosa Osmani.
