Haxhiu: If the LDK insists on the president post then elections are the only solution
Member of the Presidency of the Self-Determination Movement (VV), Albulena Haxhiu confirmed today that her party leader, Albin Kurti and the leader the LDK, Isa Mustafa, will meet this week to finalize the agreement on the new Kosovo government.
Even though, if the LDK continues to insist on the president post then the only alternative remained, as Haxhiu underlined, is new elections.
What’s more, the LDK request was named as meaningless by Haxhiu.
“We have not entered the race to solve the issue of president and such demand, therefore, seems completely incomprehensible for me. However, I’m saying that we, as Self-determination have two alternatives. The first, of course, is to have a governing coalition that doesn’t include the issue of the president, and even to refuse any involvement of specific names on this issue, as the figure of the president itself represents a sort of unity. And the second option is new elections, as the Self-determination will not enter coalition with any other entity. But let’s be clear that the LDK’s request for president is not even supported by the people… We, as the Self-determination are not interested in the elections, considering problems that the state of Kosovo has; though if there are such barricades we will certainly face such situations”, Haxhiu says in an interview for KosovaPress.
According to her, there were no hasty actions for creation of the ruling coalition, as even Kosovo’s president, Hashim Thaci, didn’t call the constitutive session for Kosovo Assembly.
“Maybe there were no hasty actions as, on the other hand, we still don’t have a call for the constitutive session of the Assembly. As you know, the President of the Republic of Kosovo have 30 days to do that… We expect that the president will fulfill his constitutional obligation in order to form the Assembly and to open the path for creation of the institution”, Haxhiu added.
Haxhiu though expressed her optimism regarding coalition between VV and the LDK as, according to her, the only issue distinguishing the two political entities is the presidential post, as they already agreed upon on all other issues.
“It was a request from the LDK that the issue of presidential post needs to be included within the VV- LDK agreement, and this request caused our reserved stance in relation to ruling coalition. However, we couldn’t have any meeting as Albin Kurti was not in Kosovo. He is in Kosovo now, and I believe that the two leaders will meet soon in order to finalize the ruling coalition agreement. Although we’ve had differences on this point, as far as I remember we’ve had no differences on any other matter. I am quite optimistic that the VV-LDK coalition will happen, as all such statements or demands seem to be normal. For VV, however, it was not fair that the issue of the president was raised during negotiations between VV and the LDK. I believe the agreement will be reached this week, but I truly don’t know when. I believe it will be announced soon,” Haxhiu concluded.
Last meeting between Albin Kurti and Isa Mustafa took place on December 2, and there was no other meeting since then.
Meanwhile, Central Election Commission certified election results of 6 October on 27 November.
Otherwise, in a poll conducted few days ago by the news portal Periskopi, out of 5,200 respondents 90 percent (or nearly 4,700 people) says that Isa Mustafa doesn’t deserve to be president, while only 10 percent (or 517) were in favor of this option
