Thaçi in Reçak: International silence is encouraging Serbia to deny genocide in Kosovo

Kosovo’s President, Hashim Thaci, has visited Recak today. He was tough with the international community, by saying that their silence opened Serbia’s mouth to deny genocide in Kosovo.

“We need to remember the past, in order to move towards secure future for citizens. Today I have chosen to visit Recak, which represents culmination of the state massacres, against civilians committed by Serbia, in the context of the genocide perpetrated by the state of Serbia.

Serbia has carried out around 400 massacres, killed around 1300 children, its state apparatus raped around 20,000 women, and at the same time killed around 13,000 civilians.

I reiterate, Recak marks the culmination of massacres and crimes against humanity, committed by the state of Serbia in Kosovo.

Serbia has committed genocide in Kosovo but, unfortunately, those who committed those crimes against humanity and genocide have not been investigated nor brought to justice, either locally or internationally.

The future cannot be built by denying crimes, nor by insulting or labeling the killed civilians, as it can happen elsewhere where they’ve committed crimes, as well as in Bosnia or in Croatia.

The future is built if the Serbian leadership is accepting the responsibility and, at the same time, apologizing for all the crimes committed to the state of Kosovo.

Unfortunately, I have to say with disappointment that international silence, especially the lack of their visits in Recak, which, I reiterate was the culmination of massacres committed by the Serbian state, opened its mouth and appealed current Serbian leadership in some form, in order to proudly deny genocide in Kosovo.

I would like to thank the Swiss Embassy, which was very clear in its statement regarding the massacre in Recak,

Crime committed in Recak is crime against humanity, it’s a crime and a massacre and not an event. An event is a sport match, or a nonobligatory party, but here acted an army led by the Serbian leadership that committed the crimes.

The silence and the lack of visits here by internationals, in order to throw few flowers for those women, elders and children massacred here had encouraged Serbia to deny genocide in Kosovo, “ Thaci says.

” We’re silent, as the Assembly of Kosovo, but majority of the massacres have their evidence”, Thaci concluded./Periskopi/
